What I Can Get Done In 1.5 Hours

Monday is my busiest day with my girls activities. Between the two of them there are back to back dance classes from 4:30pm till 7:15pm. What this usually means is the night before we prepare dance bags including outfits and snacks because on Monday afternoon there is no spare time! I leave work early, pick the girls up from after school care, and then straight to the dance studio. Homework is done in between dance classes and dinner is after we get home which means its something that is quick and easy to prepare.

My husband was home yesterday and took over  dance duty so I could get a work out in. I ended up staying a little late at work and didn’t get home until nearly 6:00pm. This left me with 1.5 hours of having the house to myself!  First did some things on my to do list:

  • I finally took care of the rebate on our new tires for the husbands car
  • I filled out three different school forms
  • set up two online fundraising accounts for my girls for Jump Rope for Heart
  • I called and got hotel rates for the end of the month for my girls out of town dance competition (had to call for special dance competition rates otherwise I would have done this online)
  • I started dinner
  • Finally I went upstairs and put that sports bra on

I chose to work out at home because I’ve heard stories recently about people circling the gyms parking lot for 10 minutes waiting for a parking space and i’m not willing to do that. So I went with my trusty old Thirty Day Shred DVD.


When I am not doing one Jillian Michaels’ work outs I think she is great and inspirational. When I am doing one of said work outs I HATE her! One of these days i’m going to watch it and instead of working out i’m going to time each segment because I swear they are longer than she says they are.

The Family came home while I was doing my cool down which the girls joined me for. As we sat on the floor in a “straddle” (my children corrected Jillian on her terminology) my 6 year old pointed out that our feet were supposed to be “flexed” not pointed. I guess all these years of dance lessons are teaching my girls something!

I accomplished quite a bit during my 1.5 hours of alone time.  It felt  good to have a quiet house for a little bit, get things crossed off the to do list and work towards one of my years goals of being healthier and working out. I also love that we are instilling a healthy lifestyle with our girls. When they see mommy working out they want to join in! Not bad for a Monday night.

2017 Top Three Goals

2017 Top Three Goals

2017 is upon us and many hope it will go better than 2016. My 2016 wasn’t my worst year but it wasn’t my best year either.

My goals this year all have one thing in common, me! A happier me. A more well rounded me. A healthier me.

Goal #1: Write More

Oh look i’m achieving my goal already! I  love writing and once upon a time I saw myself freelancing. I’m hoping this blog will help me get back in the habit and maybe one day who knows have a byline!

My main goal though is just to get back into something I love and flex those creative muscles in my brain that have been resting dormant for year since accounting is not the most creative line of work!

Goal #2: Be Healthier

2016 was the year of donuts for me. My co-worker gets the most amazing donuts from a bakery by her house and I would seriously fight someone for one of those donuts. So 2016 was not the healthiest year.

I love to run. I would say a couple of years ago I was a runner. I have run 6 half marathons and countless 5k’s but as my girls get older and husbands work schedule remains crazy my running was put on the back burner. I miss running. I miss the “runners high” after logging a few good miles. I miss my cute perky runners butt. I miss what a stress reliever it was for me. Running made me goal focused and encouraged healthier eating as I thought about the fuel I needed when I was logging double digit miles.

Seeing as how it is winter in Wisconsin my outdoor road running will probably be delayed until March but until then my goal is to work out 3 times a week. I do have a much neglected gym membership and own countless work out dvd’s so I really have no good excuse except that my life is exhausting sometimes!


Goal # 3: Spend More Time Enjoying The Moment

In this age of social media and work e-mail on our phones 24/7 I sometimes do not feel I am as fully engaged in the moment as I can be. I know my cell phone is a terrible distraction for me. So while my girls are in dance class i’m going to watch them through the glass and see the progress they are making. As a family having meals with out television or i-pads present. Phone free date nights with the husband, heck any date with the husband!

To quote one of the best 80’s movies ever “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”. My girls are growing up way too quickly and I don’t want to miss a moment.
